The University of Warmia and Mazury was established on September 1st, 1999 in Olsztyn. It is a young institution but in its activities, the University draws on the heritage of the Albertina of Königsberg, the Hosianum of Braniewo, and 50 years tradition of the Academy of Agriculture and Technology and the Higher Teacher Education School in Olsztyn. One of UWM largest faculties in terms of number of students and teaching staff is the “Faculty of Environmental Management and Agriculture”. At the faculty’s “Department of Soil Science and Soil Protection”, “Department of Agrochemistry and Environmental Protection” as well as at “Department of Land Reclamation and Environmental Management” research works have been conducting to study water and nutrient retention properties of soils and in this respect they have sufficient equipment and experience in this area of studies.
