The Research Institute for Industrial Crops (ISCI) is a research institute of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. The research activity of the Institute has the general goal of improving agricultural production techniques, focusing on agronomy, breeding, phytopathology, biochemistry, and physiology of industrial crops extensively grown and processed in Europe. Beside, projects studying the effects of climate change on crops, plant resistance to abiotic and biotic stresses, and crop production system sustainability are in progress. The purpose of this research line is the evaluation of the environmental impact of cropping systems including industrial crops. The Institute is under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and also cooperates closely with several national and foreign research institutes. Numerous EU COST actions and multi-lateral international projects are currently on going.
