The Estonian Agricultural University (EAU)* is one of the largest universities in Estonia with ca 900 employees, 4300 students and annual turnover 8.830.000 €. The priorities in academic and research activities of EAU provide the sustainable development of natural resources necessary, the preservation of heritage and habitat. EAU is the centre of research and development in agriculture, forestry, animal science, veterinary science, rural life and economy, food science and environmentally friendly technologies. The Institute of Zoology and Botany of EAU is engaged in the research on Estonian nature (plant cover, fauna, fungi, water bodies, terrestrial ecosystems) and processes taking place in nature at different levels of biological organisation.
* in 2006 the university was renamed as Estonian University of Life Sciences (Eesti Maaülikool - EMÜ).
